Transpyrenees by Bike: Girona to San Sebastián over the Tourmalet and Aubisque

From the Mediterranean to the Atlantic, nine riding days and the most famous climbs of the Tour de France and the Vuelta. Our guided Transpyrenees crossing starts in Girona and finishes on the beach in San Sebastián, linking the Bonaigua, Peyresourde, Aspin, Tourmalet and Aubisque with quiet Basque valleys and outstanding food every night.

Day 1 · Girona warm-up

45 km · 600 m

Private transfer from Barcelona to Girona, bike setup and an easy loop over the climbs of Serres and Mas Llunes with views over the Empordà.

Day 2 · Girona to Camprodon

85 km · 1,600 m

From Mediterranean landscapes to real mountains: the Vall de Llémena and the long, consistent Collada de Capsacosta.

Day 3 · Camprodon to La Seu d’Urgell

105 km · 1,900 m

Above the tree line on the Coll de la Creueta, one of the highest points of the Catalan Pyrenees, then a sweeping descent. Night at the Parador.

Day 4 · La Seu d’Urgell to Vielha

120 km · 2,600 m

A queen stage: Port del Cantó and the high Port de la Bonaigua (2,072 m), then a long descent into the Val d’Aran.

Day 5 · Vielha to Sainte-Marie-de-Campan

92 km · 2,500 m

Into France and Tour de France territory: Col du Portillon, Peyresourde and Aspin.

Day 6 · Campan to Bielle

108 km · 2,850 m

The mythical day: the Tourmalet (2,115 m), then the Soulor and the balcony road to the Aubisque.

Day 7 · Bielle to Larrau

82 km · 2,700 m

Wilder French Basque country: the steep Marie Blanque and a string of quiet climbs (Bouesou, Labays, Souscousse).

Day 8 · Larrau to Elizondo

75 km · 2,000 m

The green Basque Pyrenees over the Bagargi and Ispeguy, back into Spain and the Baztan valley.

Day 9 · Elizondo to San Sebastián

96 km · 1,300 m

Rolling Basque countryside to the Atlantic and a triumphant arrival in San Sebastián, celebrated with pintxos.

Day 10 · Departures

Fly home from San Sebastián or Bilbao, or stay longer in the north of Spain.
