Vineyards of the Priorat around Gratallops

Bike & wine: the best single-day cycling experiences from Barcelona

Some of the best rides end at a table. Within an hour of Barcelona there are four wine regions where you can spend the morning on quiet roads or gravel tracks between vineyards, and the afternoon tasting what grows there. These are our favourite single-day bike & wine experiences.

Penedès: cava country, 45 minutes from Barcelona

The Penedès is the home of cava and the easiest wine escape from the city. Gentle hills, farm tracks and Romanesque hermitages make it perfect for gravel bikes and eBikes. Finish with a cellar visit in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia and lunch among the vines.

Alella: the wine region you can ride to

Alella is one of the smallest denominations of origin in Spain and the only one you can reach by bike from our shop. Ride up the coast, climb into the vineyards of the Serralada de Marina and taste the local Pansa Blanca with a view of the sea.

Montsant and Priorat: the big day out

Further south, Montsant and Priorat are wild, dramatic and world famous for their reds. Steep terraced vineyards, slate soils and villages perched on rocks like Siurana make for some of the most spectacular riding in Catalonia. We take you there by van so your legs are fresh for the climbs and the tasting.

  • Spring and autumn are perfect, and harvest season (September–October) is magic.
  • Book ahead: the best small wineries open by appointment only.
