Description

What to Expect

This tour links the Pyrenees foothills to the Costa Brava, tracing the reverse of the classic Pirinexus circuit along traffic-free greenways built on old railway lines.

Starting in Camprodon, a mountain town on the Ter river, riders climb through the Ripollès before dropping into the volcanic Garrotxa region around Olot. From there, the route follows the Carrilet greenway through orchards and forest toward Girona, a city of Roman walls, a Gothic cathedral, and a well-preserved Jewish quarter.

The final stretch swaps mountains for the sea, running past small Empordà towns to finish at the Costa Brava village of Sant Feliu de Guíxols.

Surfaces alternate between smooth greenway gravel and short paved sections, making the trip accessible to riders of moderate fitness.

Overall, expect a gentle but varied journey from alpine scenery to Mediterranean coastline, with volcanic landscapes, historic towns, and easy-grade cycling infrastructure throughout.

Itinerary

The tour in detail

We will meet at Terra BikeTours and transfer your group to Camprodon.

Camprodon welcomes riders with the charm of a classic Pyrenean town, set where the Ter and Ritort rivers meet.

Its 12th-century Pont Nou bridge is a signature landmark, and the old quarter’s stone houses reflect its long history as a mountain trading post. Take the afternoon to settle in, stroll the riverside promenade, and sample local specialties like the town’s famous sausages.

It’s a quiet, scenic base before the tour’s climbing begins the next day. Bike shops and rental services are available here for any last-minute checks.

Accommodation Example: Hotel Edelweiss 4*

The day opens with a climb toward Sant Joan de les Abadesses, crossing a Gothic bridge into a town anchored by a 12th-century Romanesque church, worth a short stop.

From there, riders tackle the tour’s toughest stretch, climbing the Coll de Santigosa and the Coll de Coubet, a steady nine-kilometer ascent that opens onto sweeping Pyrenees views before a long descent into Olot.

Expect the most elevation gain of the whole trip today, rewarded by dramatic mountain scenery. Olot itself sits amid extinct volcanic cones, with a lively old town and strong local gastronomy scene to recover in.

Accommodation Example: Hotel Riu Fluvià 4*
Distance: 38 km | Elevation: 450 m

Leaving Olot, the route drops onto the Carrilet  greenway, a converted rail line running gently downhill through the Vall d’en Bas and past villages like Sant Feliu de Pallerols and Anglès.

The terrain here is far easier than the previous day, mostly flat, shaded, and ideal for a relaxed pace through farmland and riverside forest. Riders can expect a scenic, low-effort ride that contrasts with the mountain stage before it.

The day ends in Girona, where the cathedral steps, medieval walls, and Jewish quarter reward an evening of exploring on foot discovering its buzzing gastronoy.

Accommodation Example: Hotel Peninsular 3*
Distance: 55 km | Elevation: 350 m

The final leg keeps on following the Carrilet greenway, a nearly 40-kilometer stretch that is light and largely free of difficulty, on very accessible terrain, passing through Cassà de la Selva and Llagostera along the old train route.

It’s an easy, flat finish, ideal for a leisurely last day in the saddle. As the coastline comes into view, riders roll into Sant Feliu de Guíxols, a Costa Brava town with a working harbor and sandy beach.

It’s a fitting end point to swap bike shoes for a swim and celebrate the completed tour

Accommodation Example: Hotel del Sol 3*
Distance: 40 km | Elevation: 200 m
