Itinerary

The tour in detail

Arrive in Geneva and meet your Terra BikeTours host at your hotel. Take some time to explore Geneva and the shores of Lac Leman.

Accommodation Example: Hotel Marmont 4*

This is a 92 km day that hugs the edge of Lake Leman nearly the whole way, so you’re rarely far from water on your left and the Alps rising somewhere in the haze ahead.
It’s not flat though: expect rolling hills as you cross lakeside towns and villages.

You’ll start on the French side, rolling through quiet lakeside communes before the road eventually swings back into Switzerland. Douvaine makes a natural early stop, a sleepy square with plenty of café terraces if you want to ease into the ride slowly. As the day goes on the lake keeps opening up beside you, with small villages offering the kind of unplanned stops that end up being the best part of a ride, a creperie here, a café with a view there.

Most of the route today uses dedicated bike lanes and small residential roads, eventually crossing a main road.

The punch arrives just 3kms before reaching your hotel, which will make you climb off the lake, offering great views of the sunset above Lake Leman.

Accommodation Example: Hotel du Leman 3*
Distance: 92 km | Elevation: 850 m

Day 2, Montreux to Saillon, is a shorter one at 67 km but still has a bit of everything so the legs get a break as the route follows the Rhône valley.

You start right on the lake in Montreux and gradually leave the water behind, following the valley floor as it opens up between the mountains. A day that feels mostly flat but points uphill following the river against its current.

From Km 26 you will join the Rhône bike path until the end of the stage, only leaving the river aside form km 39 to km 47.

Arrive into Saillon, a little town built around thermal baths and experience the wellness center of Hôtel Bains de Saillon.

Accommodation Example: Hotel Bains de Saillon 4*
Distance: 67 km | Elevation: 450 m

Day 3 heads from Saillon to Brig and stretches out a bit more, 73 km with more climbing than descending this time, so it’s the first day that really asks some pushing, although the gradual climb will make it feel less punchy.

There is almost no navigation needed today since we will be always following the Rhône Valley and its bikepaths. Except for a few sections where the bikepath is under construction and we need to detour into town or along the small roads.
The valley narrows as you go east, mountains closing in on both sides, and the villages along the way feel increasingly alpine as we enter the German speaking regions of Switzerland.

Brig arrives feeling like a proper mountain town, gateway to the passes ahead and the last Swiss town before crossing into Italy.

Accommodation Example: Hotel de Londres 3*
Distance: 73 km | Elevation: 550 m

Start by taking the train from Brig to Iselle, a 20min ride that takes you under a 3400m mountain all the way to Italy.
This is a unique kind of train where personal cars can be loaded to keep on driving at the end!

The train ticket is not included on the trip price and must be purchased at the station or online.

Today is the first day riding in Italy, and everything changes rapidly: language, food, infrastructure…
We leave the perfect Swiss bike lanes behind since today’s stage uses mostly Italian backroads across quaint villages.
Don’t miss the change to visit Domodossola (km 16) and Vogogna (km 31).

Ride the shores of Lago di Mergozzo, and by km 58 you will be riding the shores of Lago Maggiore until your hotel.

Accommodation Example: Hotel Ristorante San Carlo 3*
Distance: 83 km | Elevation: 550 m

Today we will ride along Lago Maggiore at the beginning of the day and then on the dedicated bikepath along Rio Tesino and the Canal Naviglio Grande, which takes you all the way to Milano.
A pretty straightforward day with minimal towns in the itinerary and little to no navigation needed since you will be following river and canals for the majority of the day.

Accommodation Example: Hotel Capitol 4*
Distance: 85 km | Elevation: 450 m
