Description

What to Expect

This classic west-to-east crossing of Northern Italy links two of the country’s most iconic cities by bike, tracing a gentle path through the Lombardy and Veneto plains.

Riders pedal away from Milan’s fashion-forward energy into a landscape of rice paddies, vineyards, and quiet farm roads, with the shimmer of Lake Garda never far from view. Along the way, the route threads through Renaissance towns and Roman remnants, from Brescia’s historic squares to Verona’s amphitheater and Vicenza’s Palladian villas.

The terrain stays largely flat to gently rolling, making this an accessible tour for cyclists of varying fitness levels who still want a genuine sense of covering real distance. Each day blends time in the saddle with generous stops for regional food and wine, from Lombard risotto to Veneto’s crisp whites.

Expect a mix of cultural immersion, culinary discovery, and steady, satisfying riding. It’s a tour that rewards curiosity as much as fitness, with plenty of reasons to stop, look around, and slow down.

Itinerary

The tour in detail

Riders arrive in Milan and settle in before the tour begins, with time to explore the city’s grand piazzas, the Duomo, and its famous shopping galleries. This is a chance to shake off travel fatigue, meet fellow cyclists, and get bikes checked and adjusted. A welcome briefing covers the route ahead and what to expect each day.

Accommodation Example: Hotel Capitol 4*

The first day in the saddle eases riders out of Milan’s urban sprawl and into the open farmland of the Lombardy plain.

Expect flat, steady riding past rice fields and small agricultural towns, with plenty of rhythm to settle into.

Brescia arrives as a pleasant surprise, its Roman ruins and medieval castle often overlooked in favor of flashier neighbors. Cyclists can expect a comfortable, moderate-distance day that builds confidence for the tour ahead. Evenings in Brescia’s old town offer a first real taste of regional history.

Accommodation Example: Novotel Brescia 4*
Distance: 99 km | Elevation: 250 m

This stage brings riders close to the southern shores of Lake Garda, adding scenic variety to the countryside miles.

The route rolls gently through vineyards and small villages known for local wines, with occasional glimpses of the lake’s blue water.

Verona announces itself with its famous Roman amphitheater and romantic, Shakespeare-linked streets. Riders can expect a more hilly but still manageable day, rewarded by one of the tour’s most beautiful city arrivals. It’s a highlight stage for both scenery and history.

Accommodation Example: Notti sull’Adige 3*
Distance: 78 km | Elevation: 550 m

A shorter, more relaxed day connects two architectural treasures of the Veneto region.

The road passes through quiet countryside and small towns before reaching Vicenza, celebrated for its Palladian villas and elegant historic center.

Riders can expect lighter mileage, leaving extra time and energy to explore the city’s UNESCO-listed architecture. It’s a good recovery-paced day between two more demanding stages. Vicenza’s compact, walkable center makes for an easy evening exploring on foot.

Accommodation Example: Relais Santa Corona 3*
Distance: 63 km | Elevation: 250 m

The final stage builds anticipation as riders cross the last stretch of Veneto countryside toward the lagoon.

The landscape flattens further, with the air and light gradually shifting to signal Venice’s approach. Riders end this stage by pedaling the dedicated cycle path along the Ponte della Libertà, the 5km bridge connecting the mainland directly to Venice itself.

Crossing the lagoon by bike offers sweeping views of the water and the city skyline rising ahead, a genuinely thrilling way to arrive. It’s an unforgettable close to the week’s journey, ending right at the doorstep of Venice.

Accommodation Example: Hotel Olimpia 3*
Distance: 91 km | Elevation: 350 m
