Penedès Bike and Wine Tour: Cycling from Barcelona to Catalonia’s Cava Country

Barcelona’s favourite wine region is a short ride from the city. This four-day Penedès bike and wine tour climbs out of Barcelona over Tibidabo, follows the Llobregat to Martorell and then spends three days on vineyard gravel, quiet lanes and cava cellars, with boutique hotels and a wine tasting along the way.

Day by day

Day 1 · Barcelona to Vilafranca del Penedès

70 km · 900 m

Climb the Arrabassada road to Tibidabo, a Barcelona classic, then descend through La Floresta and ride the gravel path along the Llobregat to Martorell, the gateway to Penedès. Stop for a glass of cava in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia before reaching your hotel.

Day 2 · Vilafranca to the Garraf Natural Park

62 km · 800 m

A loop through endless vineyards on small roads and paths, including a short gravel ramp that touches 13%. Every village has its cellar or cooperative, so lunch and a tasting are never far away.

Day 3 · Garraf and Penedès: choose your ride

Up to 115 km · 1,550 m

Ride the vineyards of southern Penedès, head deep into the pine forests of the Garraf range, or link both for an epic day. Finish with a wine tasting at your hotel’s own cellar.

Day 4 · Serra del Bolet and back to Barcelona

56 km

Climb the Serra del Bolet for a final view over the whole region, then roll downhill to Sant Sadurní, where we pick you up and take you back to Barcelona.

When to go and who it is for

Spring brings green vines and flowers; September and October are harvest season, the most atmospheric time to visit cellars. It suits regular cyclists who are happy on gravel; an e-bike makes the climbs out of Barcelona and up the Garraf much easier.
